As Metadata for Africa we are thrilled to announce that we have the opportunity to be involved in the capture of metadata against the Archive of South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC). Founded on January 8, 1912, the ANC was Africa’s oldest liberation movement and fought its struggle for emancipation longer than any other liberation movement on the continent.
There are more than 2 million manuscript pages in the archive and over 100,000 photographs as well as materials such as posters, artefacts, audio, video and film. Those involved in the project will be capturing manuscript titles against almost 500,000 manuscripts and information against tens of thousands of photographs.
The project has a tight deadline so we are looking for lots of skilled and enthusiastic participants. If you are wanting to contribute toward nation-building in South Africa and have the necessary skills, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
